So would we do Gudas to TO for their 2019 1st? - MBFlyerfan
Not sure that I'd make that deal this year. I'm not really in love with this draft after the top 6-8 guys. I think I'd rather have Gudas back next season over a late 1st rounder this year.
I'd obviously move Folin for whatever you can get, and I'd be offering AMac with the full 50% retention to anyone who may be interested.
Among the forwards, besides Weise, who I'd be thrilled to move even with 50% retention just to get him out of here, I'd be offering Simmonds to the highest bidder and I'd have Raffl made available as well. |

Bill, good stuff as usual.
Not sure if you have commented on this before, but what is your take on Gordon? Do you think if the Flyers continue this recent trend with the young players continuing to play well, that he would be extended? Or do you believe that no matter how well the team does leading up to the end of year that the Flyers will still look for a "big name" guy?
Thanks. |

If Simmonds and the Flyers really do want to work out an extension, they could still trade him this year, which improves the Flyers while giving Simmonds a shot at a Cup, and then sign him to that extension as a UFA on July 1st. There's no way it's going to be an 8-year deal, so holding his rights isn't an issue.
I personally think that his term/salary options will be too high, but if the Flyers and he can agree on a figure, I'd get the best return they could get for him and then resign him as UFA. |

Not Bill, but I think Gordon will have his name in the hat. The Flyers owe it to themselves to look at a handful of coaches to see who seems like the best fit. If Quennville does want to coach next year, it's in their best interests to try to bring him in.
However, if the Flyers DO go with a different coach, does Gordon go back down to LHV? Seems like they've been struggling (more than before) since he was brought up. |

First impression is best. But a 1st rounder is still (potentially) the 33rd best player. Maybe better but compromised their position thru off-ice issues.
This is why front officers are paid.
Make productive players through assets. |

Phantoms struggles aren't coaching related. They are very thin at forward right now -- already depleted by injury, the NHL callup of reigning AHL MVP Phil Varone has definitely been felt in Allentown -- and they got two rather subpar games in goal when they had to start Branden Komm due to being in 3-in-3 gauntlets of games. Also didn't get a great game from Stolie last Friday, although he played better than his numbers looked. |

I like Gordo both as a coach and a person but unless there is a dramatic upswing in the second half, I think the Flyers will try to go after a "big name" coach (Quenneville, Vignault, etc) this summer. Wouldn't surprise me if either Gordo remains on as assistant coach on the special teams side or if he is offered the Phantoms job back, Huffer stays on there as an assistant coach (the players all love him) and Murph comes up as a bench assistant.
All speculation on my part, though. I don't know what will happen. |

Bill,
What do you think it would take for the Flyers to pry Michael Ferland away from the ‘Canes? Love that kid’s game...can skate, has shown a scoring touch of late, and is a physical force (similar to Tom Wilson, minus illegal checks to the head)? |

If they like him, wait until the summer when he's a UFA. |

Thanks, Bill. Wouldn’t it make more sense for the Flyers to work out a trade this year, acclimate Ferland to the team, system, city now, in the hopes/with the intention they can sign him long-term in the off-season? |

Bill- What do you think the Flyers could get for Wayne Simmonds? What do you think they could get from Nashville, Edmonton, and Toronto specifically? |

I think Ferland is going to test UFA this year no matter what. The Flyers would have to blow him away to pre-emptively sign him, and I don't think they will.
The better use of assets this year would be to either get young players or players with term remaining, and then target UFA players like Ferland on July 1st.
IMO. |

I like Ike!
This kid is huge and seems to really have matured his game.
Hoping for another diamond in the rough draft pick.
As for Frost, I sure hope he can continue to run parallel to G, in the NHL. |

Seems like a pretty terrible idea. Sorry, Clarke isn't the GM anymore. |

If the Flyers can get a first round pick for Gudas I believe you take it and run. |

I'm having flashbacks of Mike Rathje circa 2005-2006. Not a good idea. |
